'FELTED SHOES CAN BE DIFFERENT !'

This master class allows students to create sawing felted shoes either with zipper, eyelets or elastic. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create a pair of sewn tennis shoes. You will have the freedom to design your own shoes and learn how to make a pattern based on your unique design. The focus will be on creating comfortable and orthopedic shoes that perfectly fit your feet.

Learning outcomes

During the master class, students will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:● How to take accurate measurements and determine the correct shoe size.Creating personalized shoe models that consider the individual characteristics of each participant's feet. These models can serve as a foundation for making various shoe styles in the future.● Techniques for making shoes with different fastening methods such as laces, elastic, or zippers. Detailed explanations and demonstrations will be provided during the session.● Designing and incorporating leather decorative details into felted shoes. Participants will learn how to work with leather, including selecting the appropriate type, thickness, and elasticity for shoe construction.The process of stretching leather for shoe manufacturing, along with a list of necessary tools.● Constructing heel and toe parts using high-tech materials in shoe production.Creating different models of sewn felt shoes based on a single pattern, allowing for versatility in design and style.● Mastering the skills of a traditional shoemaker adapted to felt shoes, specifically focusing on crafting felted orthopedic shoes. This involves creating shoes that provide optimal foot support, incorporating inner soles and a rigid heel box.● These topics will be covered comprehensively throughout the master class, equipping participants with valuable techniques and knowledge for creating unique and comfortable shoes.

Tentative program of the workshop

  • Day 1. Measurements & template

    During the master class, participants will engage in various activities and learn the following:● Taking accurate measurements and determining the appropriate shoe size;● Designing their own shoe model and considering the individual characteristics of their feet when choosing shoe styles;● Exploring different methods of shoe closure such as lacing, elastic bands, or zippers, and discussing their practicality;● Creating unique designs with leather decorative details, including sketching;● Developing a pattern for the shoes;● Detailed discussions on increasing the workpiece along the stitching seam;● Strengthening the felt material and making it more wear-resistant.

  • Day 2. Sewing & heel box

    ● Assembling the various parts of the shoe into a complete workpiece;● Working with leather, including selecting the right materials, determining the appropriate thickness and elasticity for shoe construction;● Installing heel and toe parts made of high-tech materials, as well as adding a reinforced heel section.

  • Day 3. Zipper, elastic or laces

    Incorporating functional features in the shoes to prevent foot injuries, including inner soles and a sturdy heel box.
    Tightening the workpiece onto a shoe last and adding leather details.
    Exploring the creation of different shoe models using a single pattern.
    Installing inner insoles and soles on the shoes.

  • Day 4. Soles & accessories
